April 8 solar eclipse postponed

Welcome back to the Co(s)mic News Bulletin. Today we bring you breaking news from our solar system.

In an official announcement made earlier this morning, NASA stated that the much awaited total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 has been postponed due to technical difficulties concerning the Moon’s orbit.

After a recent surge in the Sun’s activity, coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have heated the Moon’s orbit so much that it dilated, almost sending our beloved nightly companion on the other side of the solar system where it had no one to admire her. Fortunately, two Starlink satellites that were in the area when disaster struck managed to stop the Moon just in time and drag it out of harm’s way.

Our celestial friend is currently stationed on an old and rusty geostationary orbit around Earth, waiting for repairs to its original orbit. NASA’s co(s)mic workers are hard at work, but it’s believed that bending back Moon’s orbit won’t be over in time for the planned total solar eclipse. Repairs are supposed to take about three weeks, but that only if the Sun stays put and doesn’t mess other things up. And that’s a big if, as reports show that in 2024 the Sun will be more spirited than it has ever been in the past two decades.

The unfortunate event has left Mexican, US and Canadian citizens living on the path of totality in a state of utter shock, and they haven’t even heard the worst of it all.

With the Moon currently stationed and its orbit undergoing repairs, the month of March will be longer than normal. That’s right folks, the month of March continues after the 31st. There’s no telling how long it will be in the end, but some estimates show between 45 and 75 days. What we know for certain from the world’s governments is that work days will be added to it and that there will be no extra weekends.

It’s going to be a tough period for all of us, but once the orbit is fixed, we will go back to our regular weekends and the Moon will go back to its usual duties of entertaining astrologists, making surfers happy and keeping people awake at night from time to time.
